Memory Care

The Memory Care Center Walnut Valley Utilizes

Unlike in Assisted Living, a move to the Memory Care Center Walnut Valley has is often out of necessity and is due to a loved one’s constantly increasing needs and challenges.

We also understand that, as their primary caregiver, you may feel uneasy about allowing someone else to care for your loved one.  Here at Walnut Valley, we will not only support you and your loved one through the disease process but we promise to honor each individual for the person they are, not the disease they suffer from.

We have created a calm, safe, and secure environment that is staffed 24/7 with trained caregivers and nurses to help care for each resident. Below are just a few of the ways we provide care and compassion.

  • The Meaningful Moments Program is designed to honor the individual and bring joy to their everyday life.
  • Parallel Programs are smaller group programs that cater to different cognitive levels so all residents can feel successful when they participate.
  • The Compassionate Cuisine Program is specially designed to assist with any mealtime challenges that may arise.
  • Certified Dementia Practitioner provides advanced dementia training to all staff members.

We Create Meaningful Moments Every Day

Why Did We Create It?

The Memory Care Center Walnut Valley created is a purposeful and realistic program that allows each resident to feel valued, successful, peaceful, cared for, and loved. The foundation of this program is an understanding that each resident is different. They have different likes, dislikes, abilities, and goals. We need a complete program that reflects these differences, not just a one size fits all schedule.

Who We Serve

We serve residents living with different types of debilitating illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, Parkinson’s, Lewy body, and many others. We provide 24-hour nursing care, which allows residents to age in a safe place while maintaining treatments such as sliding-scale insulin management. In addition, we cater to our residents’ abilities, focusing on what they are able to accomplish instead of what they can no longer accomplish. This approach allows us to engage memory care residents while maintaining their dignity and allowing them to thrive.

How Do We Make It Successful?

  • We take the time to learn about each resident’s past and present to create more purposeful, personalized programs.
  • Each activity utilizes Parallel Programming allowing for residents with different needs, interests, and abilities to partake in activities that foster a feeling of success.
  • We give all staff members permission to make everyday activities meaningful and not just tasks that need to be checked off of a list. We really know our staff members and their individual interests, so this freedom provides them constant opportunities to adapt activities by taking advantage of their individual competencies. Everyone benefits and our team members feel a sense of pride in sharing their interests and talents.
  • We take into account opportunities for sensory stimulation focusing on sight, smell, temperature, touch, and hearing, to create more meaningful communication with our residents as well as reducing behaviors and agitation.
  • To insure our methods are inspired and cutting edge, our programs are researched based and our staff training incorporates lessons learned from national certification programs, such as the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.
